♦ In 1986 there was a restoration done on the statue of liberty. A new torch was constructed and covered in a thin layer of 24k gold.
♦ On the statue of liberties crown there are 7 rays. The 7 rays are representing the 7 continents. Each ray measures up to 9 feet long and weigh as much as 150 pounds.
♦ From the bottom of the statue of liberty to the head there are 154 stairs.
♦ The face on the statue of liberty is about 8 feet tall.
♦ The head of lady liberty was put on display at the Worlds Fair in Paris in 1886.
♦ In one hand she holds a torch, and in the other she cradles a tablet. On the tablet there is an inscription of a date, July 4, 1776, or the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

♦ Emma Lazarus, an American poet, was responsible for writing “The New Colossus” in 1883. It’s a sonnet that was engraved on a bronze plaque and is now on display inside the lower level of the statue in 1903.
♦ The comic book character “Miss America” was granted her powers by lady liberty.
♦ Approximately 4 millions people pay their respects and visit the statue each year. To compare, the London eye gets 3.5 million and the Eiffel Tower gets around 6 million.
♦ The French ship Isere was responsible for shipping the 300 copper pieces to America in 214 crates. The ship almost sank in stormy waters.
♦ She isn’t just a movie star, she is also on our money! She is on the $10! Well, kind of. It’s mainly just the torch.
♦ The total cost of building the statue of liberty and the bottom pedestal came to over $500,000. In today’s money, that would be over $10 million.
