The Red-Eyed tree frog is one of the most recognized frogs in the world.  With its bulging red eyes, blue streaks and beautiful colored orange toes. They have suction cups on the bottom of their toes that helps them to climb up tall trees and stay on the leaves.  This little guys are located in Southern Mexico, Central America, including Costa Rica, panama, Honduras, and Northern South America.  Red Eyed tree frogs were discovered in 1862  by Edward D. Cope in Darien, Panama.

Red-Eyed Tree Frogs prefer to live in lowland rainforests so they can be near ponds, rivers, or streams.  They are carnivorous and will eat mostly insects such as flies, grasshoppers and moths however crickets tend to be their favorite.  Strangely enough they have been known to east smaller frogs too.  They are nocturnal so you will finding them doing their hunting at night.

These little guys are quite the climbers!  Spending their days high up in the canopys of the rainforest clinging to the leaves.  There amazing climbing skills have earned them the nickname of “monkey frog”.

During the mating season.  The Male frogs with make a very loud croak like sounds to help attract a female mate.  It makes almost a vibrating sensation.  Once a mate is found the female tree frog will make sure and lay her eggs on a leaf above the water.  In a few days the tadpoles will fall into the water below them!  The Metamorphic process ( tadpole to adult frog)  will take anywhere from a few weeks up to several months.
